Hello all! I’ve made it back from my great Guatemalan adventure in one piece, and I’m so excited to share all of my amazing fruit finds with you. It’s taken me a bit longer than expected to get back into the swing of things at home, but now that I’m feeling a bit more organized, next week will be full of new fruit adventure tales! So stay tuned, and have a great weekend!
Since this blog is all about fruit adventures, I figure I had better define what a fruit adventure is!
A fruit adventure is a quest to seek out and eat a fruit. Usually it will be a fruit that you have never tried before, or an exotic fruit that you rarely get to eat. I live in Canada, so my fruit adventures usually involve tropical fruits, but also local fruits that only grow for a short season (i.e. strawberries or peaches).
A fruit adventure can be as simple as going to your local grocery or market and buying a fruit you’ve never tried before. Or you could visit a nearby Chinatown or ethnic grocery to make things a bit more interesting. Fruit adventures could also involve taking a drive out to the countryside to pick your own local fruit.
Of course, in my mind the most exciting fruit adventures involve travelling to a different country and perusing the markets for new and unusual fruit. And the ultimate fruit adventure is to actually go into the forest/jungle/countryside of a tropical area and find a fruit right where it is growing!
In The Fruit Adventurer blog, I will cover all of these different types of fruit adventures and more. I hope you’ll join me!
You’re probably wondering why anybody would start a blog about fruit? Well, the reason is that I love talking about fruit, trying new fruits, and meeting other people who are passionate about fruit.
The truth is, I have a bit of a fruit obsession. It all started 10 years ago when I travelled to China, and encountered truly exotic fruits for the first time. The lychee, dragon fruit and something I call an apple melon, all blew my mind and made me realize that there is more to fruit than just plain old apples, oranges and bananas.
Over the years, I’ve been on several trips in search of new fruits, including travels to Asia, South America, the Caribbean and the South Pacific.
I’ve talked about starting a fruit blog for years, as I have long wanted to meet other fruit adventurers, raise awareness of exotic and rare fruit, learn about new fruits, and also to motivate me to go on new fruit adventures. So I’m planting my fruit blog seed, and hoping to grow it into an amazing community of fruit enthusiasts.
Welcome to my fruit blog, and I hope you’ll join me on my fruit adventures.
